Hotty Toddy and Happy 60th!

So... living in Georgia is wonderful, but I will jump at any chance to go home to Mississippi, even for a super short trip. So when I realized that Ole Miss would be playing Georgia this year in Oxford, it wasn't even an option. We drove to Oxford Friday night and stayed with my cousin Sarah and her new husband Paul.

Greg had never been to an Ole Miss game, much less the Grove (WHAT?? I had to fix this situation). So we put on our gear and headed to God's country to experience the best day of Greg's life.

The Grove was packed. The weather was perfect. Our tickets rocked. Ole Miss played very... well, never mind about how the game turned out, we've never lost a party. Beat that, Bulldogs.

We found some friends!

Sara Tyson, Samuel and Baby Husband
My brother Arthur (alias: ArtyPop) joined us
If you haven't noticed, Greg perfectly played the part of a life-long Rebel fan by sporting an original Ole Miss golf shirt. His hair even matches the color scheme. How convenient.

Also, he now has a beard. I can't decide what I think about it quite yet.

Aren't they adorable?
After we left the Grove, Greg and I drove to Jackson. My awesome grandparents, Mom and Pop, are having their 60th Wedding Anniversary in a couple of weeks and my family got together to surprise them with a celebration.

60 YEARS! Give these champs a hand!
We all met at my aunt and uncle's boathouse for lunch. My uncle grilled Pop's famous Ribs recipe and we hung out and enjoyed each other. It's been a while since we've all been together!

The guys playing Horseshoes
What a motley crew!
My name's sake: probably the most incredible woman I know :)
Mary Alice! She came all the way from Cali :)

Although our trip was quick with lots of driving... it was such an encouraging and wonderful weekend! I miss my family so much and LOVED getting to see them!!!

Out With The Old...

So I keep talking about us moving out of our first apartment, but I never put up pictures of what it looked like. Being the hopeless nostalgic one, I made sure to take lots of pictures before we started packing up our beloved first home.

Moving out of our first apartment created a wave of emotion I totally did not expect. I was sad and boo-hooey throughout the whole packing and moving process. This apartment was the only place Greg and I had lived in together...we knew how it all worked. Where things were, how we moved around, etc.

Most of our first year was spent in that apartment. It's where we spent our time, where we got to know each other better. Moving to a new place felt like we were moving away from each other, and that wasn't a good feeling.

BUT now, after beginning our "settling in" process, we are loving the new house and having fun figuring it out together. We are next door and across the street from some of our dear friends - just icing on top of the cake!

But about the house later. Here are some pictures around our apartment, our first home :)

Our Little Kitchen

I like to call these our "Christmas Couches"...We're very festive.

This would be Greg's "man room." It's very important for him to have his own room to put all of his special man stuff in.
I have a lot of trinkets

Greg couldn't stand not making it into a picture...he's so sneaky.

These two paintings are by none other than my talented mother, Janie Davis. Isn't she amazing?
This is of Taylor Grocery right outside Oxford, MS...the best catfish!

Bottletree Bakery on the Square in Oxford...my favorite breakfast place!
And here is an example of Gregor's artwork that he leaves on the whiteboard before he goes to work at the crack of dawn:
He's quite the creative one, eh?
There it is, our first place! Pictures of the new house will come as soon as I make it picture-worthy....

Life's a Beach

The best place in the world may very well be the beach. It doesn't really matter where, just any place with waves, sand, seagulls and fresh shrimp. I could stay there for a long time. In fact, when Greg and I went to Cancun on our honeymoon, I begged him to let us stay and live at our resort. He said no. Boo.

My dad's family used to own a huge beach house in Orange Beach, Alabama, and he spent every summer there until he went to college. We used to go to the beach when I was young with all of my cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents from my mom's side every year until a few years ago. The beach runs in my blood. I love it!

So, the Davis clan packed up it up and met us in Santa Rosa Beach, FL (between Destin and Seaside). The weather was perfect and the time with my family was very refreshing. It was hard to leave!

Life is good today

The Mountain Top Experience

So my life lately has been ridiculous. I'll spare you the fully-detailed calendar of events, but basically, today was the first day I feel like I've been able to sit down and relax for at least a month, probably longer.  We've traveled, traveled, moved, traveled and traveled again. I'm all for going on a road trip, but I can't say that I've ever been this excited to have ZERO plans on Labor Day weekend besides watching college football (Hotty Toddy!).

Greg and I went on two trips - one with each of our respective families - in the span of a week. This is the first of my vaca/vaca/moving "series."

First, we went to the mountain top: Blue Ridge, Georgia.  All Meyers were accounted for: Derek, Donna, Zach, Greg, and myself. We had a big time!

On a swinging bridge we drove around a couple hours to find. Note the only person in the picture who doesn't own hiking gear. If you thought they sold Nike shorts at REI, then I'll go ahead and spill the beans: that person would be yours truly.

Zach had a birthday and had to wear the birthday hat. Don't let that innocent grin fool you, he is always up to something!

I picked some wildflowers and attempted to work on my photography skills. I have mucho to learn.

Queen Anne's Lace always reminds me of my sweet grandmother :)

This is the point when it dawns on me that "hiking" is actually just walking in the woods.
I love this!

Donna chilled on a rock while Derek attempted to spearfish with his hiking stick.

Isn't my man good lookin'?

Don't fall G!
Such a beautiful weekend!

One Reason I Love My Husband

He takes his music and his weekends very seriously. He also makes sure to include me as well as our refrigerator white board.

Change in Scenery (or Several)

So things are just crazy around here.

I've been getting used to working everyday (really enjoying it, by the way!) and Greg finished his RTS class. We've watched a lot of Big Bang Theory, made a lot of homemade pizzas, and I've managed to kill all of my herbs...again.

It's time for a break. So, we're taking two. Tomorrow, we're leaving to the mountains in Blue Ridge, Georgia with Gregor's fam. They are mountain people. We're staying in a cabin and are going to ride horses (can't WAIT!), hike and go tubing on the river. It will be spectacular. We're getting back next Tuesday.

The mountains probably won't be enough relaxation, though, so on Thursday, we're going to Destin with my family. They are beach people. Kicking it back on the beach with the fam...can't wait for that either! I've been craving the beach since the last time I went.

You know how vacations are meant to relax you from craziness? Well, we will return to it, more chaotic than before. We'll have to hit the ground running...because we're MOVING!!! The Meyer's will be the new residents of a cute little house about ten minutes away from our apartment. Not only is it a great place, but it's right next door to my dear friend Elizabeth. She took me in when I moved to Macon three years ago and I lived with her until G and I got married. Our dear friends Carlie and Anders live across the street. It's like moving home!

Old picture - Celebrating after Elizabeth ran her marathon!

Carlie and Anders' wedding this past September
We're very excited about this new phase in our lives, but are a little nostalgic about leaving our first apartment :( I've been trying to take pictures around here before we pack everything up and will share them here soon!

So, that's our next three weeks...all exciting things! Now, to end the procrastination - I have to bake goodies for the weekend and then go pack!

Peace out Macon,
Mary Jane
